Lewandowski shined with two goals
The game started brightly, with Athletic Club pressing hard. Nico Williams came close to giving the home team the lead after just seven minutes. He cut in from the left and fired a shot that went just wide. But Barcelona quickly took control. In the 14th minute, Lewandowski showed class when he chipped the ball elegantly over goalkeeper Unai Simón. The goal was his 100th for the club – and coincidentally also Barcelona’s 100th league goal of the season.
Just three minutes later, Lewandowski doubled his lead. A corner from Raphinha caused chaos in the Athletic defence, and the ball found Lewandowski at the back post. He headed the ball home without a problem. The Barcelona fans cheered wildly, and the atmosphere was electric.

Athletic fought but fell short
Athletic Club did not give up. Just before half-time, Maroan Sannadi had a golden opportunity alone with goalkeeper Iñaki Peña. But instead of shooting, he tried to feint, and the chance went into the sand. It was a moment that summed up Athletic’s challenges in the match.
In the second half, Lewandowski could have scored a hat-trick. Raphinha crossed perfectly from the left, but the striker shot over from close range. Athletic also came close to reducing the deficit when an own goal from Pau Cubarsí almost fooled Peña, but the goalkeeper made a fantastic save and tipped the ball over the crossbar.
Olmo put the finishing touch
Towards the end of the match, Barcelona were awarded a penalty, and Dani Olmo was as sure as a bank. The 3-0 goal put a fitting end to a dominant performance. Barcelona fans, many in Barcelona jerseys, celebrated the victory that also marked the end of a brilliant season.
With 103 goals scored and only 29 conceded in the league, Barcelona showed a perfect balance between attack and defence. Coach Xavi’s tactics, with high pressing and quick changes, have made them a nightmare for opponents.
Athletic still secured the Champions League
For Athletic Club, the loss was of course disappointing, but the season has been a success. With a fifth-place finish in the league, they secured a place in next season’s Champions League. Young players like Nico Williams are showing that the future is bright, and coach Ernesto Valverde has every reason to be proud.
What makes Barcelona so good?
Barcelona’s success is about more than just star players. Xavi’s 4-3-3 formation has been honed, and the team tops the league in possession (62.4%) and shots per game (15.7). Players like Pedri and Gavi command the midfield, while youngsters like Cubarsí have bolstered the defense. Lewandowski, even at 36, is still a goal machine.
The way forward for Barça
Now that the season is over, Barcelona are looking ahead. With a mix of experienced players and young talent, the aim is to dominate both La Liga and the Champions League next year. Fans can already look forward to seeing what this group can achieve.
