Strong Start for the Blues in Philadelphia
Oh my goodness, what a start to the FIFA Club World Cup 2025! Manchester City, wearing their iconic Manchester City kit, kicked off the tournament with a solid 2-0 win over Wydad AC on June 18 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. It was a match that showed both strength and a bit of drama, just like it when we gather at the pub in Oslo or Bergen to cheer on our favorites!
Goal show from Foden and Doku
It didn’t take long for Phil Foden to show why he’s a star in the famous Kids Manchester City Football Kit. He made it 1-0 early in the game, and boy did he look like he’d found his form again! Jeremy Doku followed up with goal number two, and then it was all about sitting back and enjoying the show. The boys in blue from Manchester were in complete control, even if there was a bit of a sweat on their brow towards the end. What a performance, then!
Drama with Red Card for Lewis
But it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, no. Towards the end of the game, Rico Lewis was given marching orders and a straight red card. With only 10 men on the pitch, things got a bit chaotic, but City held their ground like true Vikings – just like us Englishmen do when the winter storm hits Trams! This just goes to show that Pep Guardiola’s boys have guts, even under pressure.

Oh, what an atmosphere it must have been in Philadelphia! Fans from all over the world, including many with divided loyalties, filled the stadium in their Manchester City shirts and created a buzz. For us Englishman who love football and a good party, this is reminiscent of the atmosphere during the England Cup in Oslo. In addition, we got to see the debuts of Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki under Guardiola’s management – exciting newcomers who could become big names in the future!

With this win, Manchester City has laid a strong foundation in Group G. They are the reigning champions, and it looks like they intend to defend their title with everything they have.
